The Hebrew word for honor is kavod. When we give honor to others, we are elevating them to their right place. When we rise for the elderly, we honor their age and wisdom. When we honor our parents, we show that we realize their role as lifegivers in partnership with Hashem.

If we look to give honor only to those who have achieved status or been lauded with titles, then we miss the other opportunities to honor those because of where they are in life or what they have done for others. Honor isn't fashionable, it is a sense of recognizing what it honorable in the eyes of Hashem.

If we have hope to give honor to others properly, it is important that we learn to give honor to our Creator. In doing so, we can become more in tune when honor is to be given and done so in the right way.

The Master of the Universe has not only given you life, but fashioned the Heavens and the Earth. Were it not for this, you would not be here today. Meditate on this simple idea of Hashem's majesty, His Kavod. Truly there is no One who deserves more honor than Hashem.

בָּרֲכִי נַפְשִׁי אֶת־יְהוָה וְכָל־קְרָבַי אֶת־שֵׁם קָדְשֹׁו׃
"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name."

Concentrate intently on this verse.
As you keep repeating this verse, meditate on the idea of this honor that you are giving to Hashem and allow it to flow freely to others around you.
